Explore to Learn: Science Comes to Life
For over twenty years, School in the Nature has been guiding students and teachers on an immersive journey into the world of science, offering innovative educational programs designed for elementary, middle, and high schools. In well-equipped educational facilities, students participate in dynamic workshops that reinforce and expand upon the school curriculum, particularly in the field of Integrated Sciences. Special attention is given to Earth Sciences and the karst phenomenon, which are explored through interactive activities designed to observe, analyze, and measure the impact of human activities on karst landscapes. Our projects combine scientific rigor with hands-on experience, thanks to a wide range of experiential workshops designed to enhance learning through the active Learning by Doing methodology, the very heart of STEAM education.
Each activity is designed to turn theory into practical experience, fostering the development of transferable skills and encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity—key elements in shaping informed citizens.
EXPLORING THE UNDERGROUND WORLD
Individual fee: €10,00
An immersive workshop to explore the karst phenomenon and, through chemical e physical experiments, understand the processes that shape the underground landscape.
Inside a spacious facility located within the Grotta del Trullo park in Putignano, students will delve into:
The highlight of the experience is the interactive SandBox, a multimedia tool that lets you create 3D geographical landscapes in an intuitive and fun way.

ORIENTEERING
Individual fee: €10,00
An engaging activity to explore the local area through topographyy, cartography and orienteering.
The interactive lesson will take place at the Grotta di Putignano educational center, where the following topics will be covered:
- Reading Maps and Topographic Charts
- Using a compass
- Orientation in the field

This will be followed by a hands-on activity in the park (a fenced-in area of about 2 hectares), during which the kids will take part in a fun treasure hunt using the map.
The activity concludes with a guided tour of the Grotta Del Trullo.

BETWEEN PAPIER-MÂCHÉ AND CAVES
Individual fee: €10,00
A journey through art, tradition and nature, discovering the magic of papier-mâché and the underground spectacle of the Grotta del Trullo.
In a fully equipped workshop, students will create the Farinella mask, a symbol of the famous Putignano Carnival, and experience firsthand the ancient technique of papier-mâché.
The activity concludes with a guided tour of the Grotta del Trullo, featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and the wonders of karst formations.

Discover the Grotta del Trullo – Putignano’s Underground Gem
The Grotta del Trullo, Apulia’s first tourist cave, has been open to the public since 1935 and can be reached by walking through a picturesque complex of monumental trulli.
The trail, which is easy and suitable for all ages, winds through fascinating alabaster-like formations in delicate shades ranging from white to pink. It’s a unique experience blending nature and history, led by expert caving guides.
👥 Group Organization: Students are divided into groups of up to 25 students, each accompanied by an experienced caving guide.
🔄 Smooth management even for large groups: thanks to the presence of multiple guides, groups enter in a staggered and well-coordinated manner, avoiding wait times and ensuring a pleasant, educational experience without any wasted time.
🌈 Suitable for all ages: the route is easy, safe, and fascinating for students of all ages and grade levels.

THE WONDERS OF PUTIGNANO
Individual fee (visit Cave + Museum): €6,00
In addition to visiting the Grotta Del Trullo, you can also visit the Prince Guglielmo Romanazzi Carducci Museum on the same day, which is one of the most significant monuments of Puglia’s artistic heritage.
A prestigious example of a 19th-century historic mansion, it features 20 rooms that preserve original furnishings and decor, along with paintings from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
In addition, admission to the museum includes a visit to the Museum of the History of Carnival and Papier-mâché.
The tour, combined with the cave visit, takes place throughout the morning.
